“Can” y “Be able to” son dos formas de expresar sobre
posibilidades, habilidades es decir el verbo PODER en inglés.
Present (CAN)
Subject + can+ Verb (Base form) + Complement
I can play the guitar.
Puedo tocar la guitarra.
Present (BE ABLE TO)
Subject + Verb (To be in Present) + able to + Verb ( Base
form) + Complement
I am able to play the guitar.
Puedo tocar la guitarra = Soycapaz de tocar la guitarra.
Jhon can help you with your homework = Jhon is able to help
you with your homework (Jhon puede ayudarte con tu tarea)
Past (COULD)
Subject + could + verb(Base form) + Complement
When he was four, he could swim.
Cuando el tenia cuatro, el podia nadar.
Past (BE ABLE TO)
Subject + Was/were + able to + Verb (Base form) + Complement
When he was four, he was able to swim.
Cuando el tenia cuatro, el podia nadar
They couldn’t understand the lyrics of the song = Thew
weren’t able to understand the lyrics of the song. = Ellos no podían entender
la letra de la canción
Future (BE ABLE TO)
WILL BE ABLE TO:
Studying these lessons you will be able to speak English.
Estudiando estas lecciones, tu podrás hablar Inglés.
BE GOING TO BE ABLE TO:
Studying these lessons you are going to be able to speak
English.
Estudiando estas lecciones, tu serás capaz de hablar Inglés.
